Codex Sinaiticus, British Library
A London library where you can see the oldest complete New Testament in the world, written by hand about 1,600 years ago.
Biblical significance
Discovered at Saint Catherine's Monastery by Constantin von Tischendorf in the nineteenth century and now split between four institutions, the Codex Sinaiticus is one of the two great fourth-century Greek Bibles. The Treasures gallery displays it a few metres from the Lindisfarne Gospels, a Gutenberg Bible and Tyndale's New Testament — one room holding the whole chain of transmission into English.
