Mount Ararat

Ararat rises 5,137 metres above the plain of eastern Anatolia, a dormant volcano visible from three countries. Genesis says the ark came to rest on "the mountains of Ararat", and for centuries pilgrims, monks and explorers have searched its glaciers for timber. Whatever one concludes about the search, the mountain remains one of the most striking landscapes in Scripture, holy to Armenians as the silhouette of their homeland.
