Beersheba
A desert town with an old well, where Abraham and Isaac made promises with a local king.
Biblical significance
Beersheba marks the southern limit of the land — "from Dan to Beersheba" — and the wells here are tied to Abraham and Isaac, who dug, lost and re-dug them in disputes with Abimelech. Tel Beer Sheva preserves a planned Iron Age town with a deep well at the gate, a four-horned altar and a vast underground cistern, an unusually clear picture of daily life in the age of the kings.

Tel Beer Sheva National Park is east of the modern city, about 90 minutes from Jerusalem. Shaded observation tower and a cistern you can descend into.
