Jericho
The oldest continuously inhabited city on earth, with a Neolithic tower older than the pyramids and walls that made it famous.
Biblical significance
Tell es-Sultan holds 23 layers of settlement going back 11,000 years, including a stone tower from around 8000 BC. Above the town, the Mount of Temptation carries a Greek Orthodox monastery clinging to the cliff face where tradition sets the forty days in the wilderness. Below, a sycamore is shown as Zacchaeus' tree.
