Shiloh

Before Jerusalem, Shiloh was the centre of Israelite worship: the tabernacle rested here through the era of the judges, Hannah prayed for a son here, and here the boy Samuel heard his name called in the night. Archaeologists have exposed Iron Age storerooms, sacrificial remains and a large flat area that may have held the tent itself. Jeremiah later invoked Shiloh's ruin as a warning to a complacent temple city.
