Nidaros Cathedral
A Norwegian cathedral built over the grave of Saint Olav. It is the most northern medieval cathedral in the world.
Biblical significance
Construction began around 1070 above Olav's burial place and continued in Romanesque and then Gothic through the fourteenth century. The west front carries a rank of soapstone saints and kings, most of them twentieth-century recarvings after the originals were lost. Norwegian monarchs are still consecrated here. The Olav vigil in late July fills the nave.

Entry fee. Tower climb by timed ticket. The Pilgrim Centre next door issues the Olav Letter.
